City CV is delighted to announce that our founder, Victoria McLean, has been nominated for the Mumpreneur of the Year award, at the 2018 Kent Women in Business Awards.

Victoria started City CV in 2008 after the birth of her first child, following a highly successful career as an international Head Hunter and Recruitment Manager for Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs. Initially working alone from her home office in Kent, with Victoria’s entrepreneurial skills the business has grown to its current team of 25.

These talented professionals, with backgrounds ranging from banking, accountancy and law, to technology, marketing and the civil service, are passionate about helping over 1000 clients a year achieve their career dreams. The team now provides a full career transition and development programme – from writing CVs, covering letters and LinkedIn profiles to interview coaching, personal and corporate branding, outplacement consultancy and back-to-work workshops.

Combining entrepreneurship with family life

“Being nominated for this award really means a lot to me,” explains Victoria. “Our client base is truly diverse. It ranges from graduates and military veterans to investment bankers, lawyers, marketeers, IT professionals, entrepreneurs, Non-executive Directors and many more. Seeing the difference my team makes to people’s lives is an incredible experience.”

“However, as a mum of two, I’m particularly passionate about helping parents get back to work after a career-break. I love to see women smash the glass ceiling and close the gender pay gap – although there’s still a lot of work to be done there. I understand the struggles working families face and want to change the perception that your career and home life can’t work in harmony.”

Victoria also makes sure she walks the talk. Every City CV team member has a unique flexible working arrangement, from part-time days / hours to working from home and around school holidays. “I’m very keen to ensure we work around any special requirements that gender, ethnicity and disabilities require. It’s important that my team reflects our distinct client base.”

Victoria is understandably proud of everything she’s achieved at City CV over the last 10 years. As the only UK CV writing and career coaching firm to have won TORIs – the international CV industry awards – she has grown a hugely successful business. She has also raised the profile of flexible working and family-friendly policies through her public speaking and media engagement as The CV Queen on social media and national press, TV and radio.

“My main motivation,” concludes Victoria, “are the wonderful testimonials from clients whose lives we have transformed. There’s no better feeling than that.”
